Session Description:
LIFE DRAWING
This class is aimed at the beginning and intermediate level. Emphasis will be on developing and engaging visual perception to see the human form in terms of unique configuration. Participants learn and practice exercises in gesture, contour, shape, proportion, value, and expression. Some structure and anatomy will be presented. Poses vary in length from the quick study to the more finished drawing.
All work is done from the live model.
Classes are limited to no more than 12 participants.

PORTRAIT
Class begins with a review of proportion, form, and structure of the human head. There will two consecutive models with the opportunity to complete two or more paintings or finished drawings.

Anatomy and Figure Drawing Classes

Session Description:
Thursday Figure Drawing Lab: the Figure Lab is designed to compliment the anatomy course and it is a non-instructed time for artists to draw from the figure for multi-day poses that will include classical poses, action poses, foreshortening, and draped poses. The Figure Lab is coordinated by the upper level TAFA students. It will meet every Thursday from 6:00-9 pm beginning January 22th, and will run for 11 weeks.
Tuesday Portrait Drawing: This course is designed for artists both painters and sculptors to learn the fundamentals of human anatomy and proportion as it relates to the portrait. It is open to artists of any level from beginner to advanced and will help any artist improve their general drawing skills and understanding of the human form.

The course format will include a 20-25 minute lecture on a specific anatomical feature and then we will draw from the model with a focus on the anatomy covered in the lecture. This course is instructed by TAFA Director and Instructor Ron Cheek.

Cost: Portrait Anatomy for $285 Dollars ($30 drop-in per session), Figure Drawing for $220 ($20 drop-in)or combined as a Mon/Wed Course for $450 Dollars.

Purpose: Our evening courses provide professionals the flexibility to draw from a live-model along with gaining knowledge about anatomy. Additionally, the evening courses provide our TAFA daytime students with extra training as they pursue mastery of figurative drawing and painting. TAFA Evening Courses are open to all levels of experience and to anyone with an interest in figurative realist art.

Session Description:
Classes that use models often:
Drawing II, Figure Drawing I & II, M/W 1:30 - 4:15, intermediate to advanced students. Other class and section times vary by semester, day is most common.
Some use of models at teacher request - Fall 2012, 2 additional Drawing II sections are offered. One is MW evenings, 6:00 - 8:45 pm; and the other is on Saturday, 9:00 am - 3:45 PM. All courses offered depend on required enrollment of 15 to "make".

Occasional models:
Painting I & II & Advanced Painting I & II - beginning to advanced students -
M/W 9:00 - 11:45 am and T/R 1:30 - 4:15 pm, other sections and times times vary

Light to no models -
Painting I & II and Watercolor I & II,
Sat. only, 9:00 am - 3:40 pm; beginning to advanced students

The teachers vary in the type and length of poses. All are very good about breaks and are reasonable about the abilities of the model. Gesture poses are often used as warm-up for longer poses.

2D Art Studio, A851, is on the 8th floor of the A building - the 9 story historic building facing Lamar St. Take the elevator to the 8th floor. Go to the left as you exit the elevator then go around the corner to your right. A851 is the first room on your left.

Weekly Open Session w/ Model. Artists can use any medium. Session is 3 hours long and will typically have a combination of short and long poses. Very casual atmosphere and non-instructional. Great opportunity to get in front of a model and perfect your craft.

Monday night figure drawing concentrates on the fundamentals of good drawing: gesture, contour and mass, with an overview of the general skeleton and muscles of the body. Drawing fundamentals will be emphasized, as well as encouraging individual style in drawing.

There are four levels in the main program (We also provide special courses and workshops) at Sofia Art Academy.

First Level - Constructive drawing and painting of simple objects and forms, sculptures, and still lifes.

Second Level - Constructive drawing and painting of complex objects and forms, sculptures, and still lifes.

Third Level - Constructive drawing of features of the face, hand, foot, skull and head constructions. Painting of complex still lifes.

Session Description:
This is a 3 hour sculpture instruction class offered by the Creative Arts Center of Dallas. We study the human form and work from nude models as well as clothed models. We offer instruction to all skill levels. Our medium is clay. Sculpture size us usually 10-14 inches.
